Kyoto Sushi Motoki
Kyoto Sushi Motoki
Edomae sushi in the heart of Kyoto, with its original restaurant boasting an 8-year Michelin-starred legacy of excellence.
Restaurant Details
In the night sky that is the Tokyo culinary landscape, Michelin stars are more akin to candle flames. For a restaurant to hold a Michelin star for more than a few years is a feat that demands nothing but the highest standards of excellence in all respects — not just in excellence of culinary technique, but also in service and ambience.
So for the original Akasaka branch of Momonoki to have held its Michelin star for eight consecutive years is simply astounding. While the original restaurant was one of the most renowned Chinese restaurants in Tokyo, the restaurant has since expanded into the domain of Edomae sushi, but brings with it the trademark Momonoki hospitality, service and attention to detail.
Expertly-crafted a la carte dishes and nigiri alike convey an acute sense of the seasons, thanks to the long-running connections between the restaurant and its suppliers, which affords it access to the freshest possible ingredients of each season. In accordance with authentic Edomae technique, the fish is carefully aged and allowed to rest before being made into sushi, bringing out a more intense flavor.
The Kyoto branch is located right outside Kyoto Station, on a busy street corner opposite the famous Higashi Hongan-ji Temple, making it one of the most visited establishments for Kansai sushi enthusiasts looking for a taste of traditional Edomae sushi. Guests are invited to take a seat at the wooden counter, immersing themselves in a sophisticated and calming space as they enjoy the chef's expert culinary craftsmanship.
