Shika Jaya
Shika Jaya
Washoku (Traditional Japanese)
With the atmosphere of an early Showa-era bathhouse intact, the long-established tofu at Shika Jaya makes for a delicious vegetarian-friendly meal.
Restaurant Details
The restaurant Shika Jaya was established in 1938 when the bathhouse "Ebisu" was opened in a building that was once used as a villa.
In the historical atmosphere of the restaurant, you can see the clear stream of the Hayakawa River with the Hakone mountain range below, and enjoy the tofu and yamaimo dishes prepared by the owner.
Their signature "Soun Tofu'' is recommended, which is a unique dish created by Shika Jaya based on a hint from the priest of Sounji Temple. The tofu is made from firm tofu produced in Hakone-yumoto, heated in a flavorful kombu broth, and topped with grated yam made with rich miso from Takayama in Gifu. We hope you will try this exquisite harmony of flavors.
If you are going to visit Hakone, enjoy a meal at Shika Jaya to feel the tradition of Japan.
