This restaurant strips back to the fundamentals of tempura cuisine while adding the Kyoto twist for a unique change.
Restaurant Details
This fine tempura restaurant has a prestigious reputation for being established by Tawaraya Ryokan, one of the most famous and exclusive ryokans in all of Kyoto. Tenyu offers a tempura dining experience unlike any other. It prepares and serves tempura exactly how it’s supposed to be: light and crispy, and non-greasy. To do that, the chef of Tenyu strips back to the fundamentals of tempura craft as he prepares each tempura with the freshest and highest quality of seasonal ingredients.
Not only that, the tempura at Tenyu reveals interesting flavors as there’s a Kyoto twist added. Cottonseed oil is used, and this brings out the natural umami of each ingredient as it’s fried with Tenyu’s tempura batter. Served on the side are condiments like dipping tempura sauce, grated daikon radish, sansho peppers, salt, and lemon. All of these can be used according to the various tempura dishes.
Highly famous and one of the best in the city, Tenyu is definitely not one to miss out on. The skills and elegance of the chef are so unique that no other can mimic it.
