We took this private mochi class with Sakura-san! What an amazing fun day it was! Sakura-san was very kind, hospitable, and knowledgeable! The history and every step to making the mochi was very detailed. Both sweet and savory mochi were delicious and I can’t wait to try these recipes when I get home! Thank you much Sakura-san! I will definitely take another class from you if ever I am back in Japan!

I participated in Akito’s Tea Farm Tour on June 30th and I highly recommend it. Due to some complication, we had to shuffle around the schedule but he was very accomodating and we were able to meet up in the end. Right off the bat, the groups are not large so it has a intimate feeling. You get driven around in Akito's car up to the tea farm, where you'll be able to take pictures from up the mountain and of the farm itself. We were also taught and allowed to pick a leaf from the bush. We also got to see the inside of a tea factory. Finally, we got to taste green tea in a multitude of ways that I didn't know existed as Akito gave out explanation with presentation slides. Now for the review itself, Akito is a fantastic host. He's very knowledgeable about green tea, tea farms and any questions you have about the area. He was also easy to talk with and speaks English well enough for his explanations. I'm not a big tea drinker, but Shizuoka is known for its tea production and I enjoyed the experience very much. I got to learn a lot, including some tips on how to better enjoy green tea. At the end, you can also buy the tea you tasted, along with some more regional specialties from the farms directly. I'm not that well versed, but I did appreciate that they sold just the brown rice itself to make genmaicha (generally sold together with the leaves). In any case, definitely book with Akito if this is the kind of thing you are interested in.

We had such an incredible experience on our small group tea tour with Akito. He led us and was absolutely wonderful – knowledgeable, warm, and engaging. He shared so much fascinating information about Japanese tea culture, history, and the production process in a way that was easy to understand and deeply meaningful. You can tell how passionate he is about tea, and it made the experience so much more special. The tour itself was perfectly paced, and we felt welcomed from start to finish. We left with an even greater appreciation for Japanese tea. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting – it’s an unforgettable and authentic experience. Thank you, Akito for such a beautiful day!

Explore the World of Wagashi: Traditional Japanese Sweets

If you have a sweet tooth and a passion for cultural experiences, Wagashi food experiences are your gateway to delight. Wagashi, traditional Japanese confections, are not just sweets, but an art form that reflects the changing seasons and intricate craftsmanship unique to Japan. These delightful confections are often made from rice flour, sweet bean paste, and natural ingredients, delivering a subtle sweetness and artistic presentation that captivates both the eye and the palate.

On a Wagashi food experience, you’ll have the chance to explore the history and tradition behind these exquisite sweets. Learn how they have been intricately tied to Japanese tea ceremonies and festivals for centuries. These experiences typically offer hands-on workshops where you can make your own Wagashi under the guidance of experienced artisans. Discover the variety of forms and flavors, like the delicate pink sakura mochi heralding the spring season, or the cool and refreshing matcha nama yatsuhashi ideal for summer. Engaging in a Wagashi experience not only enriches your understanding of this culinary art but also provides a deep insight into Japanese culture.

Dive Into the Seasonality and Beauty of Wagashi

Wagashi is more than just a dessert; it is an embodiment of nature's beauty and the seasons. In the realm of Wagashi food experiences, you will learn how these confections beautifully capture the ever-changing essence of nature. Each piece is crafted to mirror the flora and landscapes of Japan, offering a vibrant and delicious homage to the time of year. As you participate, you might create wagashi that resemble cherry blossoms in the spring or maple leaves in the autumn, using naturally derived colors and ingredients.

Furthermore, these experiences often include pairing Wagashi with traditional Japanese tea, such as matcha, which accentuates the flavors of the sweet confections. By partaking in these experiences, you gain an appreciation for the deliberate balance between sweetness and bitterness, an essential aspect of enjoying Wagashi. Whether you are creating or just tasting, each element of Wagashi making is carefully thought out, contributing to an immersive cultural experience.

Why Choose a Wagashi Food Experience?

Opting for a Wagashi food experience means diving into an enriching and fun activity suitable for individuals, families, and even groups of friends looking for a unique outing. It’s a perfect opportunity for those interested in culinary arts and Japanese culture to learn directly from skilled artisans who are passionate about sharing their craft.

These activities not only provide a culinary adventure but often include storytelling elements about the history and significance of different Wagashi types. Plus, taking part in this hands-on learning is the perfect way to take home some very sweet memories indeed. Whether you are in Japan or experiencing this through a local workshop abroad, Wagashi food experiences offer a uniquely wonderful connection to Japanese tradition and cuisine.

Discover the subtle flavors and beautiful artistry that make Wagashi an indispensable part of Japanese confectionary. Prepare to be transformed by these timeless treats on your next food journey.
