Experience Details

Kamakura is a place where old temples, soft greenery, and a deep sense of calm shape everyday life. This tea ceremony experience was created to share that atmosphere, a quiet, reflective moment in a setting closely tied to Zen practice and traditional arts.

Your session begins with a simple introduction to the history and meaning of the tea ceremony. The experienced instructor explains each element in a clear and friendly manner, making it easy for beginners to follow. You’ll learn how Zen Buddhism influenced tea culture, why certain gestures are practiced, and how tools like the chasen and chawan have been used for generations.

Next comes a full demonstration of the ceremony. The room settles into a peaceful rhythm as the instructor prepares the first bowl of matcha. Seasonal wagashi are served alongside it, offering a gentle sweetness that complements the tea’s aroma and warmth.

You’ll then have the chance to prepare your own bowl of matcha. Using authentic utensils, you’ll whisk the tea to your preferred texture under the guidance of your instructor. This hands-on is the highlight of the session, giving you a personal connection to the tradition.

The program concludes with a relaxed question-and-answer session and photo time inside the tea room. It’s a chance to ask questions, deepen your understanding, and capture the atmosphere before the session wraps up.

This activity is not just a quick tea tasting experience; it focuses on the presence and appreciation of the tea. Set in a traditional tea room just minutes from Kamakura Station, it offers a serene and authentic introduction to one of Japan’s most revered cultural practices.

Guests may wish to explore nearby attractions before or after the session, such as temples, a bamboo forest, or visit some shops and food stalls around the area.
