Experience Details

This 1-night, 2-day experience immerses guests in the cultural and culinary heritage of the Kumano Kodo Iseji Route.

Your journey begins along Magose Pass, where the Edo-period stone path winds through hinoki cypress forests.

Your local guide leads the way as the soft notes of a Hyakuhachi flute mix with rustling leaves and distant birds. Along the path, they share the history of the pilgrimage route and the Edo-period stone paving.

After the walk, check in at Kappo no Yado Misuzu, a traditional inn known for its seasonal seafood cuisine. In the evening, the head chef presents a kaiseki dinner that highlights the freshness and natural flavors of locally caught fish. Each dish is crafted with care, letting textures and aromas speak for themselves.

On the second day, visit a Kishu Binchotan charcoal kiln. A master artisan shows how the charcoal is made and explains how generations have learned to judge its quality by sight, smell, and sound.

The journey culminates at Sumiyaki Kappo Inaeyasha, where a live kaiseki lunch is prepared over Kishu Binchotan charcoal. Guests watch the chef skillfully control the fire to bring out the subtle flavors and textures of fish and vegetables, deepening appreciation for the role of charcoal in Japanese cuisine.

This combination of pilgrimage walking, traditional lodging, artisan craftsmanship, and live charcoal cuisine offers a deeply immersive experience that connects guests with Kihoku Town’s living heritage.
