Niseko is a charming ski resort town on the northern island of Hokkaido. In the warmer months, Niseko transforms into a lush and green paradise. Natural beauty aside, Niseko is also known for its food scene and abundance of fresh ingredients.
This private cooking class is taught by professional chefs trained in the Japanese culinary arts. From kitchen tools and table manners to ingredient prep and flavor combinations, they know it all in spades–and are eager to share their knowledge with you. You’ll learn how to make two classic types of ramen: shio (salt) and shoyu (soy sauce). This class can be conducted from your accommodation (upon request) or at the private kitchen location.
Shio (salt) ramen features a delicate, clear broth seasoned with salt with a light and refreshing taste. Still salty but on a different level, shoyu ramen is infused with a soy sauce broth and offers a bolder, umami-packed flavor profile. You’ll get a lesson in the nuances of Japanese cuisine, learn the ramen-making process, make classic toppings (like boiled egg and roasted pork), and get a lesson in Japanese kitchen staples.
After you’ve mastered the art of ramen-making, enjoy the fruits of your labor and slurp down your handmade lunch. Belly full of ramen and a head full of noodle knowledge, leave this cooking class with newfound culinary skills and ready to impress your friends and family back home. While your kitchen leaders are professional chefs, don’t let this intimidate you! The ingredients are easily accessible, classes are relaxed, and the menus are simple and fun–welcoming cooks of all skill levels.
