Experience Details
Sake is essentially rice wine. Thus, sommelier guidance is hugely helpful in taking a deeper look at its fine points! This exclusive sake tasting is led by experienced sommeliers with thousands of tastings under their belts. The course includes seven exclusive sake varieties each served in many ways in addition to four courses of light bites in an upscale private tasting room in Chiyoda, one of Tokyo's central districts, only a few minutes by train from Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace.
In addition to choosing serving temperatures and drinkware to optimize each sake, the sommelier hosts also designed unique twists to further discover and enjoy its true depths. For example, courses may include exploring how tastes change at five different temperatures, the effect on flavor when pairing with spices, and making teas from sake, just to name a few.
As the hosts pour and explain the distinctive features of each kind of sake, they will provide context on the unique brewing processes, going as far as explaining the stories behind the naming of some of the labels. Relish the flavor notes and learn about unique brewing techniques as you deepen your understanding of the drink that defines Japan while enjoying light bites and conversation with leading sake experts. After the tasting, you can fill your cup with your favorite kinds of sake while supplies last. Your hosts will also provide guidance on where to buy sake and answer any questions you may have about Japan's quintessential drink.
This exclusive experience is led by sommeliers certified by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) and the Japan Sake & Shochu Makers Association (JSS) with over 1,500 bottles of tasting experience. Hailing from several countries around the world, sommeliers offer guidance in native-level English, Japanese, Chinese, and German.
