This isn’t just a food tour, it’s a chance to experience Progreso through the eyes of a local. Instead of tourist restaurants, you’ll follow a local expert where recipes are still made the traditional way. What makes this experience unique is the personal connection. You’ll meet the people behind the food, hear the stories of Progreso’s coastal and Mayan heritage, and learn why Yucatán cuisine is unlike any other in Mexico. The tour is small and intimate, so you’re never rushed or lost in a crowd. You’ll have time to ask questions, take photos, and truly enjoy each bite. Your guide doesn’t just explain what you’re eating, they show you how locals eat it and why it matters. Perfect for food lovers, curious travelers, and cruise visitors with limited time. If you want to eat like a local, avoid tourist traps, and understand Yucatán culture through its food, this is the experience to book

You’ll meet your local food expert in the heart of Progreso and begin a relaxed walking tour through the town’s most authentic food spots. As you explore local streets and neighborhoods, you’ll stop at small, family-run eateries and street food stands that locals visit every day. At each stop, you’ll taste traditional Yucatecan dishes, freshly prepared and explained by your guide. You’ll learn how local ingredients like achiote, sour orange, corn, and habanero are used, and hear stories about the history and culture behind each recipe. Along the way, your guide will show you how to eat certain dishes the local way, share cooking tips you can take home, and point out cultural details you might otherwise miss. You’ll enjoy a mix of savory foods, fresh seafood, and a sweet local dessert, with refreshing traditional drinks included. The experience moves at an easy pace, with time to ask questions, take photos, and connect with local vendors. You’ll finish the tour feeling full, informed, and confident exploring Progreso like a local.

Jorge was great

There were four of us on the tour and it was unanimous, we loved it! The amount of food that you get to sample is amazing, you will not leave hungry. The quality of the food is incredible too and Jorge explains everything in a very informative and pleasant way. I would highly recommend this tour and can't say enough good things about what a great tour guide and nice person Jorge is. Our friends are back on the same cruise with their family in May and they are determined to book it again!

7 stops..I was full after 3rd. Great experience!!

We did the food tour on a cruise ship stop. Booked directly. Communication was terrific (we were time zone confused). If you are a foodie, this is for you. Our guide was fantastic. Highly recommend this experience.

Great option for cruise passengers in Progreso!

I did this tour in Progreso with my teenage boys as a cruise excursion. We very much enjoyed it! Jorge took us to some delicious places, and when he told us about the culture and history while we were eating, we learned a lot. Unfortunately he shared a lot of his info while we were walking from place to place, so unless you were right next to him, you couldn't hear what he said. Also the meeting place was kind of tough to find, because it's a small sign on a big art piece. But we absolutely did ...read more

Bethany, thank you so much for your kind review and for choosing us! Since this is a food tour, Jorge and all of our guides mainly focus on explaining the food at each stop. We also share history and stories along the way, but we try to keep that part a little lighter so the tour can stay fun and within its normal timing. That’s also one of the reasons we keep our groups small. If you’re especially interested in hearing more of that part, staying close to the guide while walking definitely helps, and I’m sure Jorge, or any of our guides, would always be more than happy to repeat anything if asked. As for the meeting point, it is located right on Progreso’s main avenue, the Malecón, next to one of the area’s most recognizable landmarks, and it is also very easy to locate on Google Maps. We really appreciate you sharing this feedback, as it helps our small team keep improving. Thank you again for your support! and we would love to have you again!
