Experience Details
Step into Nihonbashi, where old Tokyo still lingers beneath the surface of a modern city.
Just minutes from Ginza, Tokyo Station, and Akihabara, this historic district offers a quieter, more intimate look at Japan’s culinary roots.
Led by your guide Mao, you will explore three long-standing restaurants, each with its own atmosphere and specialty.
Mao tells the story of Nihonbashi through its food, shaped by generations of craftsmanship and local tradition.
You will meet your guide at the entrance of Mitsukoshi, a landmark known as Japan’s first department store.
As you begin walking through the neighborhood, Mao shares stories that trace Nihonbashi from its Edo period beginnings to its present-day character, adding context to the streets you pass.
The first stop is a cozy restaurant known for its eel dishes. Inside, the setting feels calm and familiar. You will try a rolled omelet filled with eel, followed by grilled eel served with fresh wasabi and grated radish. A drink is served alongside, offering a refreshing balance to the rich flavors.
From there, you cross the historic Nihonbashi Bridge and arrive at a restaurant with over a century of history.
In a quiet tatami room, you are served sukiyaki prepared at the table. Thin slices of marbled beef simmer with tofu and vegetables in a soy-based broth, filling the space with a warm, savory aroma. The setting invites conversation, both with your guide and fellow guests.
The final stop brings an energy shift. At a lively izakaya that has welcomed locals since the post-war years, the atmosphere is relaxed and social. Freshly fried tempura and slices of sashimi are served as the meal comes to a close.
With a final drink in hand, the evening settles into an easy rhythm, leaving you with a deeper sense of Nihonbashi through its food, its spaces, and the stories shared along the way.

All of the food was well prepared and presented throughout the tour, and the portions were large. The room was very nice as well. The guide was friendly energy, knowledgeable, and funny.
