Experience Details
Step into Tsukiji on a private tour led by local Japanese university students who are eager to share their everyday culture and food traditions.
In this 3-hour experience, you will explore the historic Tsukiji area, learn about its background, and taste your way through one of Tokyo’s most well-known food districts, often called its seafood wonderland.
Your journey begins at the main gate of Tsukiji Hongwan-ji Temple. After meeting your guides, you will enter this distinctive Jodo Shinshu Buddhist temple and learn about its architecture and the basics of proper worship etiquette. It is a quiet start that sets the tone before moving into the lively streets nearby.
From there, you will head into Tsukiji Outer Market, a lively maze of narrow streets filled with food stalls, small restaurants, and specialty shops.
Even after the wholesale fish market moved to Toyosu in 2018, many vendors here continue to serve fresh seafood and traditional dishes, keeping Tsukiji’s culinary reputation alive.
As you walk through the market, your guides will share stories about the area and point out interesting spots along the way.
You will try a variety of local foods, including tamagoyaki, sushi made with fresh seafood, green tea, dashi soup, and dried scallops. Each tasting offers a simple look into everyday Japanese food culture.
The experience is private, allowing you to explore at a comfortable pace and ask questions freely while spending time with your student guides.
