Sushi to Syukou Tomikawa
Sushi to Syukou Tomikawa
Seasonal seafood and A5 wagyu, shared across a cedar counter in Kichijoji.
Restaurant Details
In Kichijoji, a neighborhood west of central Tokyo where tree-lined streets give way to quiet side alleys and unhurried evenings, Sushi to Syukou Tomikawa opened in the summer of 2024. It is the sister restaurant to the acclaimed Sushi Tomikawa, and it carries the same sourcing standards into a setting designed to feel a little more like an evening with friends than a formal occasion.
You step inside to find two distinct worlds sharing one room. At the sushi counter — a single plank of natural cedar, its grain deep and warm — six seats face the chef directly. The wood holds a faint cedar scent that settles something in you before the meal even begins. Beyond the counter, table seats spread across a space framed with five different timbers, including private room options for smaller gatherings.
The culinary approach at Tomikawa is rooted in restraint and attention. Ingredients arrive through the same procurement channels as the flagship, with no concession made to sourcing. Seasonal seafood is the spine of the omakase — lean-cut tuna aged to draw out its depth, the clean sweetness of aori squid placed over seasoned rice at exactly the right moment. A5 Kuroge Wagyu appears through the sakana side of the menu, cooked quietly and served without spectacle. The beverage program, curated by a sommelier, moves easily between Japanese sake, wine, and original cocktails developed in house.
Courses are designed to carry you from one small discovery to the next. The evening tends to settle gently toward its close, leaving you holding a glass and not quite ready to leave.
