Experience Details
Step into an authentic Hiroshima izakaya and experience Japanese dining culture firsthand.
This is more than a cooking activity. It is a guided experience that reveals how food, drink, and conversation come together in everyday life in Japan.
The experience will begin with a warm welcome from your host, who will introduce the story of izakaya culture.
Through a simple and engaging presentation, you will learn how these casual dining spaces developed in Japan, why they play an important role in everyday social life, and how traditions like Kanpai and shared dishes express connection and hospitality.
You will then watch a live fish filleting demonstration by an experienced chef. Fresh sea bream is prepared in front of you using precise Japanese knife skills. Each movement shows care for the ingredient and reflects years of practice and craft.
After the demonstration, you will take part in a hands-on sushi-making session. You will learn how to shape sushi rice and balance ingredients to create traditional nigiri using freshly prepared sea bream. Your host guides you step by step, making it easy to follow even for first-time participants.
As the experience continues, you will enjoy a full izakaya-style dining course. Seasonal dishes are served with Hiroshima sake, showing how Japanese meals are meant to be shared and enjoyed together.
The atmosphere stays relaxed, with the soft clink of glasses and the aroma of freshly prepared dishes around you.
Throughout the session, your host shares stories about Hiroshima's food culture, sake traditions, and Japanese dining etiquette. You will also learn how sushi evolved from preservation techniques into one of Japan's most recognized culinary forms, and how Hiroshima became known for its soft-water sake-brewing method.
Rather than focusing solely on technique, this experience explores the meaning behind the meal. It shows how izakayas bring people together, where food becomes a way to connect.
