Experience Details
This experience begins not in a studio or storefront, but at the entrance of a lived-in home, where the pace naturally slows.
Chef Katsuji welcomes guests with the same ease he brings to his kitchen: warm, attentive, and unhurried. Shoes are set aside, voices soften, and the mood shifts as you step into a thoughtfully arranged tea room, where soft light falls across tatami mats.
A hanging scroll and seasonal touches create a calm, welcoming space. Chef Katsuji shows the tea ceremony tools, letting you explore them by hand. The fresh aroma of matcha fills the room as he whisks the tea into a smooth, bright foam.
Guests learn how to hold the bowl, sip the tea, and pause to enjoy the warmth of the cup and the gentle bitterness of the matcha. Seasonal Japanese sweets add a delicate pop of flavor and color.
After the tea, the experience flows naturally into calligraphy. Brushes, ink, and postcards are laid out with care. Chef Katsuji demonstrates posture, grip, and breathing, emphasizing that calligraphy is as much about mindset as it is about technique. Each stroke carries intention, and even first-time guests are encouraged to focus on feeling rather than perfection.
Guests choose from several designs and experiment with subtly colored ink, adding small visual accents inspired by nature. Birds, blossoms, or abstract forms quietly complement the written characters.
By the end, each guest will take home a postcard with fresh, vivid ink. More than a keepsake, it captures a shared moment of focus, warmth, and cultural connection guided by a host who blends culinary skill with artistic passion.
