Japanese food is loved around the world, and its realistic food replicas are gaining fans just as quickly.
Known in Japan as food samples, these detailed models are displayed outside restaurants to show guests exactly what awaits inside. Look a little closer, and you will see they are more than displays. Each piece is carefully crafted and treated as an art form in its own right.
In this hands-on workshop in Yokohama, guests get a rare chance to step into that world. Upon arrival, you will meet Yukiko, a professional fake food artist, who will introduce the history and purpose of food samples in Japan. She will then guide you through the process step by step, sharing tips and techniques used by real artisans.
Next, it is time to create your own food samples. Guests will craft a realistic three-piece sushi set, shaping and assembling each piece with care. The session lasts about 60 minutes and is designed to be relaxed, creative, and beginner-friendly.
Once finished, you can take your handmade sushi samples home as a fun and memorable souvenir. It is a playful way to explore Japanese craftsmanship and a unique experience you will not find anywhere else

Nestled below the bustling city of Tokyo, Kanagawa Prefecture is as diverse in its environment as its food is delicious; Kanagawa offers Chinese street food and craft beer in Yokohama and fresh seafood from Kamakura and Enoshima, as well as natural beauty and mountainous produce in the hot spring town of Hakone near the base of Mount Fuji.
Staff was helpful even though they were not very eloquent in English.
