Experience Details
Please note that while this is a rare case, I may have to cancel classes at short notice in October depending on my health. If you plan to make a reservation for October, kindly acknowledge this possibility before booking. Starting in November, I will be taking maternity leave for a while. Classes will resume in the spring of 2027.
Step into a cozy Kyoto home for a hands-on cooking class that focuses on two Japanese favorites: ramen and gyoza. Your host, Nariko, is a seasoned cooking instructor who welcomes guests into her kitchen to share an original family recipe passed down from her mother.
During the class, you’ll prepare ramen from the ground up, starting with homemade chicken stock and building a fragrant shoyu broth. Nariko will explain how balance and timing shape the flavor, offering practical tips that make the process approachable even for beginners.
You’ll also make gyoza completely from scratch, including the dough for the wrappers and the filling. Then, learn how to mix, fold, and pan-fry the dumplings until golden, creating a crisp exterior and a juicy, savory center. A simple homemade cucumber pickle is prepared alongside the main dishes as a refreshing contrast.
Once the cooking is complete, everyone sits down together to enjoy the meal in a relaxed, home-style setting. This class offers a deeper look into everyday Japanese cooking, combining clear instruction, family tradition, and the comfort of sharing a freshly made meal.

Lot’s of fun, and the food was tasty. Nariko’s class was well organized (7 people in the class). I may never become a professional dumpling maker, but I’m going to give it a try when I get home.
