Amiru and Joy were amazing teachers. They accommodated our party of both vegan and regular Ramen makers. We enjoyed our class and the bowl painting was so fun as well. Eating our ramen at the end was a wonderful treat! Thanks again!

Teruyuki is a wonderful host! This tour was our favorite part of our japan trip. Ayabe is a much needed reprieve from the bustle of Kyoto and Tokyo, and we enjoyed learning about the art of washi paper and then making our own! Pounding mochi was so much fun too, and we got a wonderful lunch which catered to our dietary restrictions! I am recommending this tour to my friends visiting Japan!

Lot’s of fun, and the food was tasty. Nariko’s class was well organized (7 people in the class). I may never become a professional dumpling maker, but I’m going to give it a try when I get home.

Whether you're interested in mastering the delicate balance of flavors in Japanese cuisine or learning to craft beautiful bento boxes, Kyoto's culinary classes provide an authentic and immersive experience.

Hands-On Learning with Expert Chefs

The kitchens of Kyoto come alive with the knowledge and expertise of local chefs who are passionate about sharing their culinary heritage. These classes cover a wide range of topics, from learning how to make traditional sushi to the art of creating intricate wagashi (Japanese sweets). With expert guidance, you'll have the opportunity to learn the secrets behind the perfect dashi broth, the finesse required for kaiseki (a traditional multi-course dinner), and the precision involved in preparing tempura.

Participants will gain firsthand experience in using fresh, local ingredients, a hallmark of Japanese cooking. Understanding the seasonality and provenance of these ingredients is essential in achieving authentic flavors. These classes not only teach cooking techniques but also instill an appreciation for the harmonious interplay between food and nature, which is central to Japanese culinary philosophy.

Immersive Cultural Experience

Attending a Kyoto cooking class is more than just about learning to cook; it's about immersing yourself in the cultural legacy of Japan. Many classes are set in traditional Japanese homes or historic tea houses, providing a backdrop that enhances the learning experience. As you knead, roll, and stir, you'll be surrounded by the serene ambiance that Kyoto is famous for, making the cooking process a truly meditative and enriching experience.

For those interested in the aesthetic side of Japanese cuisine, some classes focus on the art of food presentation—an important aspect of Japanese dining. You will learn to appreciate the beauty of simplicity, understanding how the arrangement of food on a plate can enhance the dining experience.

Whether you're cooking your first Japanese dish or refining your culinary skills, Kyoto classes offer a unique and rewarding way to connect with the cultural heart of Japan. Embrace the opportunity to learn from the masters and take a piece of Kyoto's culinary magic with you.
