Experience Details

Kyoto is known as the creative and cultural capital Japan, making it the perfect place to learn about a culinary staple such as miso. “Miso” is the word for fermented soybean paste, and is best known when used in miso soup or “misoshiru.” Not only used for soup, miso is a very versatile ingredient widely used throughout Japanese cuisine. On its own, it is rich and savory, but when diluted in soup it can be smooth and comforting. Miso soup is a key element to a traditional Japanese breakfast including rice and pickles, while also being an accompaniment to other meals.

Learn how to make this traditional Japanese ingredient during this miso making experience in Kyoto which features lunch, too. This experience is held at an authentic townhouse that is over an astounding 110 years old!

This miso workshop will bring you to a traditional Japanese townhouse known as a “machiya.” Just a 10-minute walk away from Kyoto Station, step inside to find yourself surrounded by traditional decorations and Japanese-style furnishings.
