The hostesses performing the tea ceremony were excellent - very engaged and good instructors when we had the make the tea ourselves. The calligraphy option was a bonus. However, it did feel very crowded in the house and it seemed that those who chose to rent a kimono and sat apart from those who didn’t, had a different experience. It might be good to have the people who rent kimonos for the tea ceremony to have their own ceremony.

Cool Location. The tea master is authentic and takes a lot of time to explain everything. He shows the spirit of the tea. You can process the tea yourself. Highly recommended.

Our host, Kaori, was very nice and friendly. She patiently explained the steps for all the participants when it was their turn and answered any questions we had. It was very cool that apart from the actual tea ceremony experience, she also introduced us to some of the history behind tea ceremonies. My partner and I enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to anyone looking to experience a tea ceremony in a traditional building in Kyoto.

The whole experience and hospitality was simply amazing. We got great kimonos, wonderful eats in the beginning, a slide show explaining the rituals of tea - followed by tea making . Each of us then got to choose from various activities like calligraphy, matcha making and miniature zen garden model making

Discover the Elegance of Matcha in Kyoto

Experience the rich tradition of Japanese tea culture with a Matcha Tea Ceremony in Kyoto. As the birthplace of many cultural and historical traditions, Kyoto offers a serene and authentic setting to immerse yourself in the art of matcha. These intimate ceremonies provide a deep insight into the philosophy, techniques, and beauty of the Japanese tea ceremony, or "chanoyu" as it's known locally. As you sip on finely whisked matcha, you'll also learn about the meticulous preparation methods and the significance of each step in the ceremony.

A Unique Kyoto Experience

In the heart of Kyoto, you have the unique opportunity to participate in a traditional tea ceremony that is infused with the region's rich heritage. The skilled tea masters will guide you through the entire process, starting from the careful selection of utensils to the precise movement required to create the perfect cup of matcha. Each ceremony is a peaceful ritual that reflects the Zen practices and aesthetic sensibilities intrinsic to Kyoto’s cultural ethos. This is more than just tea; it is a journey into Japanese history and philosophy, offering you an authentic experience you won't find anywhere else.

The Healthful Benefits of Matcha

While partaking in the tea ceremony, you'll also discover the health benefits of matcha, which is celebrated for its rich antioxidants and calming properties. Made from the finest shade-grown tea leaves, matcha is ground into a fine powder and then whisked with hot water. This method of preparation ensures that the drink retains a higher concentration of nutrients compared to other forms of green tea. Enjoy the vibrant green hue of the matcha as you appreciate its smooth, slightly sweet flavor, which is said to promote clarity and concentration. Such ceremonies not only cater to tea enthusiasts but also appeal to those interested in exploring holistic health practices.
