Okonomiyaki is one of Japan’s most popular comfort foods: a dense savory pancake of batter, meat, shredded cabbage, and any number of other fillings. At Daikonman in Shimokitazawa, you can enjoy both the Hiroshima and Osaka varieties of the famous dish — with and without soba noodles, respectively.
Watching the dish come together on a teppanyaki griddle pan — each heap of ingredients piled on top of the other, with a glaze of sauce, green onion, and bonito flakes on top — is a thing of beauty.
They offer fantastic lunch deals, with free upgrades to the jumbo-sized portions. Just be warned: these sizes require a ferocious appetite and supreme endurance to complete.
