Experience Details
Just off the coast of Hiroshima, Etajima is an island shaped by its farming and fishing communities.
There, you will meet local producers, explore the coastline, and enjoy a meal prepared with ingredients collected during the tour.
With a local guide leading the way, ride through fishing villages and along scenic coastal roads overlooking the Seto Inland Sea. Electric-assist bikes help make the journey easy, so you can focus on the views, the people, and the stories behind Etajima.
You'll also stop at local producer sites along the route, where you can find seasonal vegetables at a farmers' market as you meet the people behind the produce, and learn how farming and fishing continue to shape life on Etajima.
During the experience, your guide shares the story of Satoumi and how the people of Etajima have long lived alongside the sea. Illustrated cards help explain the island's history, fishing culture, and local traditions.
You will also meet a fisherman at the Maruki Suisan and learn about the waters of the Seto Inland Sea. The seasonal seafood sourced there is later prepared for your meal, creating a direct connection between the people who harvest it and the food on your plate.
The experience ends at a traditional kappo restaurant, where a local chef prepares a meal using the seafood and produce collected during the tour. Fresh sashimi, nigiri sushi, and seasonal dishes bring the day's discoveries to the table.
By the end of the day, you'll have experienced Etajima through the people who live there, the food they produce, and the coastal landscapes that surround them.
