Experience Details

Step into a quiet corner of Sunpu Castle Park, where the soft rustle of maple leaves and the gentle scent of seasonal flowers welcome you. With special access to the usually reserved Momijiyama Garden, this intimate setting brings Japan’s shogun-era elegance to life.

Your host is a culinary team known for creating high-end, site-specific meals across Japan. Working with top chefs, they’ve created a kaiseki course that highlights Shizuoka’s freshest seasonal ingredients. Each dish is beautifully plated, with color, texture, and aroma designed to please both the eyes and the palate.

The evening starts with a gentle walk through Sunpu Castle Park, as your host shares stories of Tokugawa Ieyasu and the gardens’ history. At the tea room, the scent of freshly brewed tea welcomes you. Sliding on soft tabi socks and setta sandals, you settle in for the tea ritual, watching the delicate steam rise from each cup.

The main dining experience takes place in the garden, where a kaiseki course is paired with carefully selected Shizuoka sake. Each bite brings out local flavors, umami from fresh fish, a hint of sweetness from seasonal vegetables, and textures that invite slow, mindful tasting.

Guests who prefer not to drink sake enjoy a Japanese tea pairing, thoughtfully matched to the menu. Throughout the meal, your host shares the story behind each dish, its ingredients, and its cultural meaning, turning dinner into a gentle, immersive journey through Japan’s culinary traditions and samurai heritage. This Japanese tea experience is led by a Japanese tea instructor.

By the end, guests leave with a deeper appreciation for Shizuoka’s seasonal ingredients and flavors, and a sense of having stepped into a world where honor, ritual, and beauty shape every moment, like a scene from Netflix Shogun’s Samurai.
