This evening experience lets you enjoy an authentic night out in Hakata with a local guide, starting with drinks and appetizers at a hidden izakaya and ending with a hearty bowl of ramen at a tucked-away eatery. Some of the best food in Hakata is found in the most unexpected places. At the first stop, a cozy izakaya on a quiet side street, you’ll taste a variety of local dishes. Fresh sashimi with five types of raw fish comes with shiso leaf, shredded radish, and wasabi. You’ll try a ground chicken rice bowl topped with a rich egg yolk, eryngii mushrooms and sweet mountain potatoes in a flavorful dash broth, fried agedashi tofu in dashi with bonito flakes, spicy Hakata caviar on rice with tea broth and seasoned nori, and crispy karaage chicken marinated in soy, ginger, and garlic. Enjoy clinking glasses and lively conversation with your host and fellow travelers before moving on to your next stop. Your guide will take you to a backstreet eatery for an iconic bowl of Hakata tonkotsu ramen. The rich pork bone broth with thin noodles, topped with barbecued pork and chopped green onions, is one of Japan’s most famous ramen varieties. Taste it for yourself and savor the flavors as you wrap up the evening with new friends. It’s a night of delicious food and unforgettable memories.

Super Great time with Bruce, he ensured the evening stayed joyful, fun and engaging! It was not awkward and he was insightful, friendly and made us feel so welcomed! His warm and knowledgable approach made the food tour amazing for my family and I. Take note, I had 3 elderly and 5 adults! I was lucky enough to be the only person on the night I went so basically had a private tour with Bruce. He certainly proved his knowledge of the Fukuoka food scene - we were, due to unforeseen circumstances, in a different area to where we were originally due to meet but this didn't put Bruce off, we were still able to sample excellent food at a number of fantastic locations. Definitely a recommended tour.

Bruce and Ling were great, knowledgeable guides! We booked the izakaya and ramen tour and they showed us some great hidden spots we never would have thought to visit, and the food was excellent. Recommend booking a tour at the start of your stay in Fukuoka so they can provide other recommendations for restaurants and sites to visit.

If I could give Bruce thousands of stars for a review I would! Bruce texted us in the USA shortly after we booked our food tour. He continued to check in on us several times before our tour. When we met Bruce in person he seemed like a long lost friend. He is fluent in English and Japanese. My husband uses a cane and he made sure the walking wasn’t too much for him.
