Experience Details

Craving an authentic, flavorful breakfast, lunch, or dinner in Tokyo that isn’t packed with sugar? If so, why not make it yourself? In this cozy home cooking class led by Yuka, a cooking instructor specializing in gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian cooking, you can learn to make Japanese staples like onigiri rice balls and rolled omelet using natural and pesticide-free ingredients. What’s more, this class can accommodate several dietary restrictions and be adapted to vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and halal-friendly diets. You’ll meet Yuka at her home in Setagaya, a quiet residential neighborhood near Shibuya. Upon arrival, Yuka will introduce the recipe and ingredients before you put on your apron and get hands-on cooking an assortment of dishes. You’ll learn about Japanese cooking techniques, differences between ingredients, and recommendations on substituting ingredients when adapting recipes for different dietary restrictions. As a culinary specialist, Yuka selects only natural ingredients free of pesticides. Sample Menu (exact contents subject to change depending on availability and seasonality): - Japanese omelet (plant-based or using free-range eggs) - Seasonal vegetable dish (e.g., seasonal green leaves with sesame sauce) - Miso soup or osumashi (a Japanese clear soup with seasonal vegetables) - Onigiri rice balls (made either with white or half-milled rice cooked in a pot instead of a rice cooker) - Dessert (e.g. mochi)
