For whisky lovers, there are few better ways to experience Kagoshima than by stepping inside the distilleries where some of Japan’s most distinctive spirits are crafted.
This immersive day tour takes you behind the scenes at local distilleries, offering the rare opportunity to see the production process up close, taste exceptional whiskies, and hear directly from the craftspeople who bring them to life.
The standard tour includes visits to two renowned whisky distilleries in Kagoshima. For guests interested in exploring another side of the region’s drinking culture, an alternative option combines a whisky distillery visit with a shochu distillery tour (see Options).
Your day begins by meeting your host at the designated meeting point before traveling to MARS Tsunuki Distillery. Here, you'll tour the facilities, learn about the distillery’s approach to whisky production, and enjoy a tasting of three Tsunuki whiskies.
Lunch is served at the distillery’s Hojo Guest House, where you can relax and enjoy a local Kagoshima meal overlooking a tranquil Japanese garden.
In the afternoon, continue to Kanosuke Distillery, one of Japan’s rising names in whisky production. Explore the distillery, learn about its unique methods, and interact with the people involved in the craft.
The experience concludes with a tasting set of three whiskies at the distillery’s Mellow Bar, where sweeping ocean views provide a memorable backdrop for your final tasting.
