Embark on a culinary adventure in Kyoto. Learn how to make delicious udon, sushi, and cucumber pickles! With Nariko's friendly expertise and guidance, you'll be able to make these tasty traditional dishes back home for friends and family. You'll make dashi (stock) from a sachet, which is the typical way most home cooks in Japan make udon soup. Then roll up your sleeves and prepare to craft lusciously thick udon noodles from scratch. Speaking of rolling, you'll then get a lesson in making sushi rolls. You'll also make Japanese-style cucumber pickles, a tasty palette-cleansing complement to the co-main dishes.
Nariko, your culinary guide, brings a world of experience and passion to the table. Her love affair with cooking began in her mother's kitchen. Now she enjoys sharing her family's recipes and techniques with friends and students worldwide. While teaching Japanese abroad from Malaysia to India and New Zealand, she noticed the magic of combining language and cooking, leading her to dedicate herself to both. Nariko boasts an impressive culinary resume, having completed a patisserie course at Tsuji Culinary Institute as well as sushi training at the Tokyo Sushi Academy. She's even a certified decorative sushi instructor under the Japan Sushi Instructors Association (JSIA).
If you want more than a regular cooking class, here's a warm, homely experience in a local Kyoto residence. She can also give you recommendations on where to buy cooking gear and ingredients so you can replicate these recipes back home or experiment and develop your own home-style versions of Japanese food.
