Experience Details

Sometimes, simple does the trick. In this class, you’ll learn how to make two staple recipes of Japanese home cooking that are simple, timeless classics.

A friendly local host will show you the secrets to a comforting home-cooked meal featuring onigiri (rice balls) and tamagoyaki (rolled omelet) as you learn about traditional Japanese cooking techniques and ingredients.

This cozy cooking class takes place at a spacious kitchen studio in Shibuya’s trendy Ebisu area. Guided by a friendly instructor, you’ll first learn about Japanese rice, discover the nuances of each type of rice and understand how to find the right variety for making rice balls.

Then, you’ll discover how to cook the rice to achieve the right texture. You’ll then take your freshly-made, pillowy rice and shape it into a triangular shape (the classic onigiri) and experiment with other shapes before filling each with your preferred ingredients.

After that, you’ll wrap your creations in nori seaweed to elevate these rice snacks with an irresistible outer crisp.

Your second item on the menu will be tamagoyaki, a Japanese-style rolled omelet. Your host will share how to create the perfect base with egg and savory ingredients to add umami, and you’ll then learn how to roll it using a square pan to achieve a perfectly fluffy roll.

fter cutting the rolls and assembling your dish, it’ll be time to sit down and enjoy your delicious home-cooked meal with your host, who will share more insights on Japanese home cooking.

Enjoy this cozy experience in a comfortable kitchen space with a convenient location in central Tokyo, only 10 minutes on foot from the nearest train station.
