Experience Details
Step into a warm local kitchen in Osaka and learn how everyday Japanese comfort food brings people together through flavor, tradition, and hospitality.
As the aroma of sizzling wagyu beef and crispy fried chicken fills the room, your host will guide you through recipes enjoyed in homes across Japan.
Led by an experienced English-speaking instructor, this hands-on cooking class focuses on two beloved dishes: a wagyu beef rice bowl and chicken nanban from Miyazaki Prefecture.
Along the way, you’ll also discover the stories, techniques, and seasonal ingredients behind Japanese home cooking.
You’ll begin by preparing a Japanese-style wagyu beef bowl. Known for its rich marbling and tenderness, wagyu beef is carefully seasoned, cooked, and served over freshly made rice. Your instructor will guide you through each step so you can recreate the dish confidently at home.
Next, you’ll make chicken nanban, a popular comfort food with a balance of sweet, savory, and tangy flavors. After battering and deep frying the chicken, you’ll coat it in amazu, a lightly sweet vinegar sauce, before pairing it with Japanese-style tartar sauce.
Once cooking is complete, sit down to enjoy your handmade meal, including sashimi and seasonal side dishes, prepared by your host.
The experience ends on a cultural note as your host performs traditional Japanese folk songs on the shamisen, offering a deeper connection to local culture beyond the kitchen.
