Experience Details

We all know sushi, but surprisingly, only a few can make it. While it might seem like a simple combination of rice, seaweed, fish, and toppings, sushi requires a skill to be prepared right.

Luckily, all you need to know will be covered in this fun cooking class in central Nagoya, perfect for sushi-makers of all levels.

Before getting hands-on in making sushi, you’ll first get acquainted with the local flavors as you sample soup stock (dashi) and seasonings, like soy sauce and miso, made locally in Aichi Prefecture.

You’ll then choose to make either nigiri sushi, classic rolled maki wrapped in seaweed, or chirashi, rice topped with sashimi and other ingredients like eggs and cucumbers. Yuka, your hosts, will also help you cook grilled fish (yaki sakana) and Japanese clear soup (osumashi) to round out the meal.

Finally, it’ll be time to sit down and enjoy your sushi creations with your classmates and hosts! Don't forget to take photos to remember the experience.

Your host can take you to a recommended cafe or grocery store after the cooking class to experience another side of Japanese food culture. Please note that any purchases made will not be included.

You’ll also receive a take-home recipe booklet to make delicious sushi again.

Your host is Yuka, a cooking specialist and nutritionist who is dedicated to sharing her love for Japanese culture with international travelers through cooking. She has traveled to 25 countries around the world and has trained at culinary institutes in Japanese cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Nagoya.

For the past 12 years she has been working at this cooking studio, drawing from her extensive experience to walk guests through crafting the perfect sushi meal.
