Experience Details

If you want to learn all about sushi, you’ve come to the right place. Located less than a 10-minute walk from several stations in Shinjuku, central Tokyo, Inshokujuku in Shinjuku is a culinary school that trains professional chefs in Japan. Their friendly and experienced staff is here to teach you what makes this tiny food so incredibly delicious and how to make your own. This class lasts approximately 2 hours and is perfect for families or small groups of friends.

First, you’ll change into sushi-making attire and learn some interesting facts about sushi, its history, and where it stands today. Then, at the school’s spacious and modern kitchen, you’ll assemble your own pieces with the help of your instructors’ masterful hands. You will make four different types of sushi (the exact ingredients vary depending on the season, but might include shrimp, tuna, egg, and whitefish) and a temaki roll. If it sounds challenging, no worries: you’ll have plenty of time (about 50 minutes) to learn how to make everything! Now, the fun part: you’ll taste your freshly-made sushi, but not before learning the unwritten rules of sushi etiquette so that you know how to both make and eat sushi like a true connoisseur.

Once the class is over, there will be some time to take photos at the counter, and you will leave with a small souvenir and a lot of sushi knowledge to continue your sushi-making journey.
