Experience Details

If you're ready to dive into the world of authentic Japanese curry, this culinary adventure in the heart of Setagaya, Tokyo, is your golden ticket! Chef Aoki-san, your culinary guru, is here to guide you through the art of making curry from scratch with spices that harmonize and aromatic veggies that come alive.

Aoki-san, your host, welcomes cooks of all skill levels to her cooking studio. Based in Setagaya (Tokyo), she founded her cooking school in February 2022 with a mission to enhance the dining experience and deepen people's relationships with food. Aoki-san's cooking classes combine curated recipes, high-quality ingredients, and provide supportive guidance.

This immersive culinary journey lasts three hours and is your chance to discover the secrets of making authentic Japanese curry.

Japanese curry, a beloved comfort food, has a fascinating backstory. Originating in India, it went to Japan during the Meiji period. The Europeans added a twist by inventing curry powder, making it accessible to all. The result? Japanese curry, commonly served with rice, earned the nickname "curry rice."

While many opt for the convenience of commercial curry roux, take a different route, the from-scratch path. Get ready to savor the deep, complex flavors that only come from slow cooking, where onions caramelize to perfection. Sure, it takes time, and patience is your secret ingredient, but trust us, the reward is worth every second! Alongside your curry creation, you'll whip up tempting side dishes. You’ll make a crisp and refreshing salad dressed in homemade sesame dressing and a Japanese-style potato salad.
