Best Restaurants in Gifu

This place has history and it captivates you. The food is tasty and very different from the veg food we are used to. The house owners keep you engaged and genuinely want you to have a happy experience . So overall a great place, great service and a highly recommended experience

The building that the restaurant is in is incredible. So much history and it's a very serene atmosphere. The staff were incredibly attentive and were great hosts. The food, without a doubt, was some of the best I've ever had. The meal was simple but elegant and the ingredients were fresh and classically Japanese. 10/10 meal and a fantastic memory was made.

This was by far our most memorable and enjoyable experience. We especially liked speaking with one of the family members who was the 11th generation of carrying on this tradition. Domo arigato gozai masu for treating us so well.

Our dinner at Kakusho was magical! The garden setting with private rooms was lovely, the staff was charming, and the food was the best we had during our trip.

Very special restaurant experience. Wonderful omakase selection of predominantly fish dishes. One of the chefs spoke fluent English so could provide clear explanations of all the dishes. Highly recommended if travelling to Gifu - a great destination near to several pottery museums and specialist kilns, hiking Nakasendo trail and mountain retreats.

It was an awesome and delicious japanese meal in a wonderful atmosphere!

While Kakusho is expensive, it was an investment in our culinary education. A splendid degustation, beautifully paced and utterly delicious. Course after course of local specialties that set the standard for soba noodles, rice that was almost like risotto, yuba bean curd skin and an array of delicious vegetables, the burdock being a revelation. Teamed with a wonderful smoot dry sake and impeccable service, Kakusho is worth every cent.

We had the 7 course vegan menu. It was a delightful adventure from beginning to end - surprising, delicious and beautifully presented. The setting and service were all a bit magical. A truly memorable evening.
