I had a lot of fun experiencing tea ceremony and playing the Japanese instrument. The place was very cozy, and Noriko, our host, created a very relaxing atmosphere. I also had a chance to wear a Japanese traditional kimono as an optional service. We took lots of photos to capture wonderful memories! Thanks Noriko for such a wonderful moment!

The tea ceremony was a delightful experience. Our hostess was incredibly knowledgeable about the art of tea preparation, and she guided us in making our own matcha using the techniques she taught. We were so inspired that we purchased a matcha whisk and matcha powder afterward to continue practicing at home.

Noriko is a wonderful, great, friendly and funny lady. She has a lot of knowledge about Japanese history and loves to share that. She’s an excellent kimono-sensei (teacher), has a great selection of very precious kimonos, also in big sizes. She’s a wonderful matcha teacher; serves delicious green tea with traditional Japanese sweet, while she explains the history of tea ceremonies.

The kimono dressing and Japanese tea ceremony was a wonderful, immersive experience. Being dressed in a traditional kimono was a unique way to connect with Japanese culture, and the tea ceremony that followed was just as fascinating. The host’s enthusiasm brought each step to life, and I learned so much about the traditions. A truly special experience I’d recommend to anyone wanting to explore Japanese culture in a beautiful, meaningful way.

Kaori provided a lovely and thorough demonstration of a traditional tea ceremony, answered all of our questions, and guided us through the process on our own. The google map link provided on booking was helpful for navigation. When we got to the location, within 5 mins ahead of our reservation time as requested in the confirmation no one was at the front and there was a sign on the door instructing to meet across the alley. When we went there we were instructed to go back, so that was a little confusing but all in all, a good experience.

Discover the Delicate World of Higashi

Higashi, a type of Japanese confectionery, is an essential part of the tea ceremony experience. Often made from sugar and rice flour, these sweets are known for their dry and delicate texture, and they come in a myriad of shapes, colors, and designs. Each piece is a work of art, intricately crafted to complement the season and the accompanying tea. When participating in a tea ceremony, the higashi are often chosen to harmonize with the flavors and aesthetics of the tea being served, enhancing the overall sensory experience. Embrace the opportunity to taste these artistic delicacies and immerse yourself in the cultural richness of a Japanese tea ceremony.

Experience the Art of the Tea Ceremony

The Japanese tea ceremony, or "chanoyu," is a ritualistic way of preparing and drinking tea that dates back centuries. It emphasizes the principles of harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility. Participating in a tea ceremony provides a unique insight into Japanese culture and philosophy. During the ceremony, you will witness the graceful preparation of matcha, a powdered green tea, usually accompanied by higashi. This meditative practice requires practitioners to focus on each precise movement and savor every moment, allowing for a deeper connection with the people and environment. Engaging in a tea ceremony with higashi offers an authentic experience that showcases the balance between taste and tradition.

Explore Unique Higashi Pairings

One of the joys of experiencing a tea ceremony is discovering the delightful pairings of higashi with different styles of tea. Each confection is crafted to enhance the flavor profile of the specific tea, providing a balanced and complementary tasting experience. The subtle sweetness of higashi accentuates the bitterness of matcha, resulting in a perfect harmony of flavors. Additionally, the intricate design of the sweets often reflects the cultural and seasonal themes present throughout Japan, offering not just a taste but also a visual delight. Whether you are a seasoned tea connoisseur or a curious foodie, indulging in higashi during a tea ceremony is an unforgettable experience that beautifully exemplifies the intricate artistry of Japanese sweets.
