Japanese Fake Food: Food Sample Making Workshop in Tokyo
Cooking Classes
This cooking class experience was absolutely adorable, fun, and educational. We arrived to the destination 15 min late because it was difficult to tell where the exact location was and where to park. I was so nervous because our group of 4 drove together from Kyoto through winding roads to find the class. Even though we were late the hosts were very kind and didn’t mind at all. They offered us tea and had us put on our aprons and wash our hands. Kimichan was our cooking instructor. She did a great job communicating, mostly using google translate to explain the steps as we were cooking. Making the set was fun and it was pretty easy. They prepared all the ingredients pre-measured and our host checked that we did the steps correctly. She also helped us take group photos and individual photos of us making noodles. Once we finished making the noodles, our teacher collected them all and boiled them together. In the end we had a good lunch that we made ourselves in a relaxing and memorable setting.

I wanted to share my incredible experience attending a Sake Tasting and Takoyaki Cooking Class led by the amazing Momoko. It was an absolute highlight of my trip, and I can't stop raving about the expertise and enthusiasm she brought to the session. First and foremost, Momoko's knowledge of sake was truly impressive. Her passion for the craft shone through as she guided us through a delightful tasting experience, sharing fascinating insights into the different types of sake and their unique characteristics. Her ability to demystify the world of sake made the tasting accessible and enjoyable, even for someone like me who was relatively new to the experience. The Takoyaki cooking segment was equally fantastic! Momoko's clear instructions and hands-on guidance ensured that everyone in the class had a blast creating these delicious Japanese treats. Her friendly demeanor and encouragement created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making the class not just educational but also a lot of fun. What sets Momoko apart is not just her knowledge and skills but her genuine passion for sharing the rich cultural aspects of sake and Takoyaki. Her engaging personality and ability to connect with participants added an extra layer of enjoyment to the entire experience. I would highly recommend Momoko's classes to anyone looking for a unique and memorable cultural experience.

Sake Tasting & Takoyaki Cooking Class in Osaka

Tomokita San is the best host and in her Japanese cooking class you get to learn a lot about japanese culture, basic ingredients in japanese cuisine, japan lifestyle and customes. Its impressive how delicious all the dishes are. You get to experience how to cook the basic dishes in a real japanese home, like miso soup, rice, seasonal vegetables and the main dish with all the typical seasonings of the japanese cuisine. You can customize the class for normal japanese food or make it vegetarian or vegan, depending on your diet. It feels like visiting the house of a friend, because she opens her house to you, welcoming you with tea and some appetizers. She decorates the table with elements of the japanese culture depending on the season or the month. The best part is that Tomokita San is always chatting with you cheerfully about japanese culture, her life, and explaining patiently how to cook and, of course, to get to enjoy the meals on her table while drinking homemade plum wine is one of the best moments of this experience. I highly recommend you to book this class if you want to learn how to cook japanese food, but also if you want to feel how is to visit a friend who lives in a real modern Japanese home.

Find The Top Gourmet Experiences in Japan

At byFood, we believe that one of the best ways to experience Japanese culture is to dive in with your chopsticks! Food is a universal human experience, something that people from all walks of life can talk about with joy and fond memories. While some might associate the smell of freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies with Christmas, the Japanese might be reminded of Japanese New Year by the smell of sweet red beans and toasted mochi. Japanese food is inextricably linked to culture and history, and it’s the celebration of these traditions that make each culture unique.

On a trip to Japan, you’ll likely plan to visit temples and shrines, Japanese parks and gardens, amusement parks and shopping districts. These areas are packed with tourists, and you could probably go back to your country without even speaking with a Japanese person, without feeling in touch with the culture at all. That’s why byFood offers hands-on, immersive food experiences in Japan with local guides, such as food tours, cooking classes, tastings, and dining experiences.

During a food tour in Japan, you can learn about the food scene in a particular area by visiting several different Japanese restaurants and establishments, or touring one place in-depth. This might be a tour of a specific neighborhood, shopping street, or market such as a fish market. Food tours also include bar hopping experiences and bike tours in Japan, which get your heart pumping as you burn off the calories from your meals (or your drinks!).

ByFood also offers cooking classes in Japan, which are hands on cooking experiences that vary in intensity. While there are many cooking classes suitable for home cooks and children, there are also intensive courses with lessons that take place over several days and offer a certificate of completion. Cooking classes can take place in cooking studios, restaurants, or homes.

Dining experiences are sit-down food and drink experiences that include experiential dining experiences like intimate dinners with a personal chef, creative themed restaurants, casual dining experiences at little eateries and izakayas, and home dining with locals.

Our food experiences also include tastings in Japan, which allow you to try different varieties of a beverage, such as tea and sake, with a local guide. You can enjoy everything from sake tastings to beer tastings to whisky tastings during a byFood tasting experiences, but it isn’t limited to just alcoholic drinks. There are also dashi and tea tastings available. The category also includes tours of breweries and distilleries that culminate in a tasting.
