Firstly, KT was great. Gregarious and a trooper for staying positive despite the heavy rain. We had missed the cancellation window, so I suppose the show had to go on. She also spoke English well! We walked around to a few street stands and older spots, learning about the area and ordering foods like dumplings and taiyaki along the way. We then took a respite towards the top of a tower that provided a wonderful panoramic view of the city. Next, we hit up Gotokuji Temple where we took in the neighborhood and learned about the shrines (and the cats and the monks!). Mercifully, the temple was not crowded during our visit, which made admiring the temple much easier even in the rain. We finished the tour with more food offerings, and we even got to part ways at a train station convenient to our route home. I highly recommend KT and this tour!

Fantastic experience! Our guide Brian was excellent—he's lived in Japan for years and shared so much insider perspective that really enriched the tour. It was refreshing to also explore a less polished side of Japanese society. The food was delicious - both the snacks and the dinner.

The core ingredient, octopus, is a perfect protein source for pescetarians seeking seafood alternatives to traditional meat options. In addition to the succulent octopus filling, the batter is typically prepared using flour, eggs, and dashi—a Japanese soup stock that can be made from fish, offering a rich umami taste. Toppings such as takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise, bonito flakes, and seaweed can be customized to create a fulfilling pescetarian experience that remains true to authentic Japanese flavors.
