Description
Hyoroku is a celebrated izakaya and Japanese shochu bar located in the vibrant neighborhood of Kanda Jinbocho, Tokyo. Established in 1948 by Ichiro Hirayama, the restaurant has retained its traditional charm, offering a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of the Taisho era. Today, it is owned by Masato Shibayama, who continues to uphold the legacy of this iconic establishment.
The menu at Hyoroku is a delightful exploration of Japanese culinary traditions. Guests can enjoy a variety of dishes, including gyoza with homemade wrappers, Hyoroku Age with cheese, natto, and green onions, and Tsukeage, a Kagoshima-style fried fish cake. The restaurant also offers shime-saba, nuta with mackerel, and a selection of stir-fried vegetables, natto tofu, quail eggs, and pickles with nuka-zuke flavor. For those who enjoy a drink, the shochu is served with hot water, allowing patrons to mix it to their preference.
The ambiance of Hyoroku is warm and inviting, featuring a cozy U-shaped counter and two tables that create a welcoming environment for both locals and tourists. The attentive service provided by the friendly owner and staff adds to the overall dining experience.
Hyoroku's location near Jimbocho Station makes it easily accessible for those exploring the area. The restaurant is also known for being a filming location for a scene involving Yuki Nakamura, adding a touch of cinematic history to its allure. Additionally, a calligraphy piece by Hayashi Fumiko is proudly displayed, further enhancing the cultural experience.
