Guided by local artisans, you will decorate a lampshade using colorful Noble Scallop shells, known as Hiougi-gai and often called the “Jewel of the Sea.”
These iridescent shells come from the coastal waters of Ehime. They are treasured for their natural beauty and local cultural importance. Once finished, you can bring your lampshade home as a meaningful, handmade keepsake.
After the craft session, enjoy a seafood meal that highlights Ainan’s local bounty. A “morikomi ryori” plate features fresh scallops, seasonal seafood, and regional produce from Ehime, thoughtfully arranged to bring out the natural flavors of each ingredient.
Ainan Town is a small port town in southern Ehime Prefecture with a strong fishing heritage shaped by its close connection to the sea. The surrounding waters provide a steady supply of fresh seafood, including the Noble Scallop, a locally prized ingredient known for its distinctive fan shape and natural sheen.
