Tokyo Matcha Making Experience with Japanese Sweets

Make your own matcha at Chikusuian on Takeshita Street in Harajuku, Tokyo. In about 30 minutes, learn how to whisk a bowl of matcha, enjoy it with a seasonal Japanese sweet, and experience a simple taste of Japanese tea culture during your day in Harajuku. Pick up a chasen, a traditional bamboo whisk, and follow the staff’s guidance as you prepare your own bowl of matcha. Watch the tea become smooth and frothy as you whisk, then enjoy the aroma and flavor of the tea you made yourself. No previous experience is needed. Once your matcha is ready, enjoy it with a seasonal wagashi, a traditional Japanese sweet. Notice how the sweetness of the wagashi balances the matcha's flavor as you take a moment to enjoy what you have prepared. The activity takes place in a dedicated area in front of the tea room. It focuses on making and tasting matcha rather than a full tea ceremony. A tea ceremony demonstration and private instruction from a tea ceremony practitioner are not included. Staff provide guidance in Japanese, with English support through machine translation. An English-speaking interpreter is not available. The experience includes one serving of matcha, one Japanese sweet, and the use of the tea utensils. Please book at least two days in advance to receive omogashi, a soft Japanese confection. For bookings made the day before or on the day of the experience, an alternative sweet will be provided. Guests aged 7 and above are welcome.
