Discover the art of Japanese home cooking through one of the country's most beloved lunch traditions. In this hands-on class at Japan's oldest cooking school, you'll learn how to prepare and beautifully arrange a traditional bento box while exploring the culture, care, and craftsmanship behind it.
Since 1882, Akahori Cooking School has welcomed students to learn Japanese cooking and food culture. Today, you can become part of that story in a class at this historic Tokyo school.
With guidance from professional Japanese chefs, you'll prepare kakuni, rice, and homemade miso soup before arranging your meal into a traditional bento box. You'll also learn how balance and presentation are woven into Japanese food culture.
Set in a historic cooking school, this class is suitable for all skill levels. You'll learn practical cooking techniques while gaining insight into everyday Japanese cuisine.
By the end of the class, you'll have enjoyed a homemade meal while gaining new cooking skills and a deeper understanding of Japanese food culture at a school with more than 140 years of history.
Classes are taught in Japanese by professional chefs. If you would like English translation during the experience, please arrange for an interpreter to join you.
