Experience Details
In this private home cooking course, you’ll learn the history and culture behind traditional Japanese sweets as you make your own!
This lesson focuses on nerikiri wagashi, which are so pretty you may not want to eat them! Nevertheless, they taste as good as they look, and are sure to impress anyone you make them for (even if it’s yourself).
Yuko, our host, has made it her life’s work to introduce foreigners to the ancient art of wagashi. Certified by the Wagashi Promotion Association of Japan, you’ll be in good hands as you mold the dough into a seasonal motif. Upon finishing, enjoy your sweets with a cozy cup of matcha and a nice chat with Yuko’s husband, who is from Australia. Set against the backdrop of the Kanda River in Tokyo, the views will be as lovely as the memories you’ll create.
Take the recipe home with you and try it on your own, as you’ll receive a downloadable version on your way out.
