Experience Details
Japanese cuisine is renowned for being healthy and having amazing flavors. This cooking class in Kyoto is led by food experts specializing in healthy eating and preventive medicine, who will enthusiastically teach you a no-frills approach to cooking you can bring to your own kitchen anytime.
Following an original recipe developed by a registered dietitian, you'll make a meal consisting of two main dishes: soba noodles and kakiage tempura. Soba (buckwheat noodles) has been a popular dish in Japan for centuries, praised for its high fiber content and nutritional value. In this lesson, you'll use ready-made soba noodles to craft kake soba, a hot soba noodle soup often enjoyed during New Year's in Japan.
You'll complete your meal with kakiage, shrimp and vegetable tempura fritter. Unlike regular tempura, kakiage consists of cutting the ingredients into small pieces and deep frying them until crispy and golden brown. Kakiage is so tasty you could enjoy it on its own or use it to top the firm soba noodle dish with a crunchy garnish.
You'll get hands-on experience making each dish while watching an expert host demonstrate the process. After cooking, enjoy your meal and take the recipes home to make them again at home anytime.
This experience can accommodate many food restrictions and dietary needs, including gluten-free, vegan, halal-friendly and food-allergy-related requests. Make sure you indicate your preference when booking!
