Experience Details

Master one of Japan’s most comforting home-cooked meals in this hands-on cooking class with Aoki-san in Tokyo’s Setagaya neighborhood.

In this immersive lesson, you’ll learn how to make shogayaki, a popular dish of tender pork cooked with ginger, soy sauce, mirin, and sake. Known for its savory-sweet flavor and fragrant aroma, shogayaki is a staple of Japanese home cooking and a favorite across generations.

Alongside shogayaki, you'll make a complete Japanese meal from scratch, including rice, miso soup, shredded cabbage with homemade sesame dressing, and potato salad.

Throughout the class, Aoki-san will share practical cooking techniques, introduce common Japanese kitchen tools, and explain the customs that shape everyday meals in Japan.

Aoki-san has been sharing her love of Japanese home cooking with guests in Setagaya since 2022. Her classes welcome cooks of all skill levels and provide a relaxed, friendly space where guests can ask questions, build confidence, and enjoy learning together.

More than just a recipe, this class offers insight into the everyday flavors and traditions that define Japanese home cooking.

By the end of the experience, you'll have a deeper understanding of Japanese food culture and the skills to recreate a complete meal for family and friends back home.
