Experience Details
To Tokyo locals, an evening at a neighborhood izakaya is a simple way to unwind, where food, drinks, and conversation flow freely.
This relaxed bar culture is known as hashigozake, or “alcohol ladder,” where you move from one spot to another, enjoying different flavors and atmospheres along the way.
On this guided bar-hopping tour, you’ll explore Akabane, a district known for its neon lights, retro streets, and old-school Showa-era charm.
Unlike more tourist-heavy areas, Akabane offers a down-to-earth nightlife scene centered around its senbero izakaya. In these casual bars, food and drinks are affordable and local.
You’ll meet your guide at the east exit of Akabane Station before setting off into the neighborhood. Along the way, you’ll choose your first senbero izakaya together, with your guide helping you order food and drinks included in the experience. You’ll also pick up simple tips on how locals enjoy their night out.
At each stop, you’ll sample different drinks and specialty izakaya dishes while experiencing the easygoing rhythm of Tokyo’s drinking culture.
By the end of the night, your guide will either take you back to the station or point you toward another nearby bar if you wish to continue exploring.
