Experience Details

Step out into Shimokitazawa and you’ll find yourself in an alternative wonderland, a maze of tiny streets filled with countless thrift stores and cozy hipster cafes. It’s also the right place to go if you’re in search for a delicious vegan feed, because Shimokita (as locals call it) offers so many vegan food restaurant options. Being vegan in Tokyo is not impossible, but it certainly has its challenges. Knowing where to look for a vegan meal can be quite a mission in itself, let alone getting something vegan and delicious (although let’s be honest, Japanese rice on its own is somehow just so plump and addictive!) Have the work done for you and join this Vegan Tokyo Organic Food Tour to discover a sustainable vegan side of Tokyo in Shimokitazawa, delicious and with organic food options that are free from animal products. The first stop on this Vegan Tokyo Organic Food Tour is a 40-year-old Japanese house that’s since been turned into a cool cafe, where you’ll taste delicious produce from an organic farm with a food tasting plate. They serve 6 rotating food plate menus, changing daily and dependent on what vegetables are in season (in true organic fashion). Next up, you’ll taste a vegan version of one of the most popular foods in Japan: Ramen. That’s right, you’ll visit a specialty restaurant where you can enjoy a piping hot bowl of ramen that’s made without any animal products, but still incorporating a tasty umami flavor. For dessert, you’ll wander down through to a beautiful tea house for matcha green tea with some traditional Japanese sweets, which already are typically made from plant-based products. This Vegan Tokyo Organic Food Tour is the opportunity to experience some of the best vegan Japanese cuisines in the trendy streets of Shimokitazawa (and the whole of Tokyo).

Experience Location

To the west of Shibuya is the little bohemian village of Shimokitazawa (or “Shimokita”). It's a laid-back hipster district teeming with vintage fashion and second-hand retailers, trendy bars, and handmade or organic markets. Shimokita is also home to excellent coffee brewed in its dozens of alternative cafes, fueling much of the free-flowing creativity amongst its tiny alternative theaters, live music venues, and independent artist studios. Once a hub for hippie youth, Shimokitazawa is also renowned for offering a lot of vegan and vegetarian restaurant options.
