Tomoko greeted us at the door and was very friendly, gracious and kind, despite that we were obviously foreign. We had a group of three and only I spoke a little Japanese . After greeting us, she took us upstairs, had a spot where we could place our belongings and saw that she had already set up three different stations for us. She asked for a group picture first-which we were happy to oblige, asked where we were from and then we jumped right in.
All instructions and the entirety of the tour was in Japanese. However, we had no trouble understanding and communicating with each other. If anything, it added more to the experience and surprisingly, made it more enjoyable. There were no awkward silences or moments of confusion. Tomoko took cues from our body language and facial expressions as we did hers and it was a phenomenal experience!
Portions were generous and she served cold, refreshing tea that she diligently refilled each time our glasses got close to being empty. Tomoko did everything herself. From setting up the stations to teaching and guiding the tour and breaking down each station while we were enjoying our meals. She was efficient but also attentive to our needs.
At the end of our experience, she gifted us with handmade boxes made of obi and tins of ceremonial green tea. She also gave us a bonus item she called "a gift" which was a place mat she made from kimono.
We loved our tour with Tomoko and I recommend everyone experience this. You will not regret it!

It was a fabulous experience, and definitely worth the price. The meal was artistically prepared and presented, and the server accommodated my dietary requests with substitutions once I saw the menu. The lady who performed and instructed the tea ceremony was very sweet; I can't imagine how many wagashi she has to eat every day! I will recommend to any friends who visit Tokyo.

I had an amazing time. The food, the kimono and the green tea ceremony was fantastic. Ayoko was able to share with us her Japanese culture. She was very knowledgeable. It was a great experience from the beginning to the end.

This was an amazing experience. Hiroshi and I communicated several times via Whatsapp after I booked the experience to confirm various details and plan something special for my husband's birthday. The entire night far exceeded my expectations.
The wagyu dinner was fabulous. We were in a private room at a takiniku restaurant near the meeting point. We had a variety of beef cuts, rice, and vegetables, and Hiroshi expertly prepared everything on the grill right in front of us while telling us about the different cuts and how Japanese beef is categorized. As a surprise for my husband, we even bought a beautiful cholocate dessert to bring out at the end of the meal.
After dinner, Hiroshi took us on a walking tour of Gion and took dozens of photos of us at the temples and shrines and other photogenic spots around the neighborhood. He also told us about the history of Gion and it's specific customs. The tour went well beyond the brief tour mentioned in the description and was one of the highlights of our visit to Kyoto.
Hiroshi is a fantastic tour guide, an engaging host, and did an amazing job of making my husband's birthday extra special.

The use of Shizuoka ingredients throughout clearly highlighted the region’s food culture.
Having simple visual instructions in English would make it even easier to follow and recreate at home.
Overall, a unique and rewarding local experience.

It’s one of the best experiences in my life. I booked dinner for my partner’s birthday. I asked the owner if they can prepare birthday cake. They did. The food is super yummy and service is the best. The tasting was great and very informative. We learned all the basics while tasting many different styles of Sake. Julian was the best of hosts and a very knowledgeable teacher. The snacks were great and he was able to adapt to my wife’s gluten intolerance. We definitely recommend.

This was an awesome hangout with Hiro! My man knows a lot about the history. Walking through Gion District in the evening was such a cool experience. The architecture was soooo beautiful. This place requires a full day of discovery! Hiro was nice enough to bring his professional camera! Took very good pictures of us. Hiro went out of his way beyond just being a 'tour guide'. Hope to hook up with Hiro again on our next visit!
