We joined the Midnight Diner Tour with Alejandro this December. We had a great time. Alejandro is clearly loved by local business owners and staff—he showed some great hidden gems.

Our sake tasting with Eriko was truly amazing! She was extremely knowledgeable in the sake brewing process and even has experience brewing sake herself. We got to taste many different types of sake and Eriko catered the tasting to our conversation and questions around each bottle. The whole experience felt extremely personal and we would highly recommend it. Thank you so much for an incredible tasting, Eriko!!!

We didn't have a tour with Anne & Lauren. We had our tour with Hannah from the company "arigato TRAVEL." Fortunately, Hannah was an absolute pleasure. Our tour with her amounted to the highlight of my month long trip to Japan. Initially I was a bit disappointed that byFood subcontracted their tours after hearing so many positive things about the company online. But again, Hannah was superb, delivering a tour of the highest standard. Thank you, Hannah! Thank you arigato TRAVEL!

Discover Authentic Izakaya Food in Tokyo

When it comes to exploring the culinary delights of Tokyo, the Izakaya scene is an unmissable experience. Izakaya, often translated as "pub" or "tavern" in English, offers a unique blend of casual dining and a cozy atmosphere where you can relish a wide variety of small dishes paired with a selection of drinks, including sake, beer, and shochu. These establishments are an integral part of Japanese culture, providing a welcoming space for locals and tourists alike to unwind after a long day. In Tokyo, the Izakaya experience is elevated to an art form, with numerous spots presenting delectable menus that cater to every taste.

Unique Dishes and Flavors to Savor

Izakayas are known for their extensive menu of shareable plates that are perfect for enjoying with friends. Imagine indulging in a freshly prepared platter of sashimi, perfectly grilled yakitori skewers, or a comforting bowl of oden during the colder months. The diversity of an Izakaya menu is remarkable, often featuring seasonal ingredients that showcase the culinary richness of Japan's capital. Other popular dishes include karaage (Japanese fried chicken), edamame, and various kinds of tempura. Each visit to an Izakaya promises a different culinary journey, highlighting both traditional and contemporary takes on Japanese cuisine.

Experience the Vibrant Atmosphere

The ambiance of an Izakaya is as important as the food itself. These establishments are frequented by locals and groups of friends gathering to share a meal and enjoy each other's company. The lively yet relaxed atmosphere is filled with the sound of chattering patrons, clinking glasses, and welcoming staff. Many Izakayas in Tokyo have their distinct charm, ranging from modern and sleek designs to intimate and rustic settings. This vibrant atmosphere, combined with mouth-watering food and delicious drinks, creates an unforgettable dining experience that encapsulates the spirit of Tokyo nightlife. Whether you're looking to delve into the local culture or simply seeking an evening of delightful flavors, Tokyo's Izakaya food experiences offer something for everyone.
