Experience Details
Fujieda, a town nestled between mountains and rivers, has been shaped by tea for generations.
It was once the central hub where tea leaves from all over Shizuoka were brought for sorting and trading, and it’s also known as the birthplace of Shizuoka’s matcha production.
This tour invites you to explore these deep-rooted tea traditions and see how tea remains an integral part of daily life in Fujieda.
Begin your journey at Shizuoka Station, where you’ll meet your local guide and travel together to Gyokuro no Sato. There, you’ll step into Hyougetsutei, a serene detached tea house overlooking a peaceful garden.
In this tranquil setting, enjoy tsuyu-cha, a unique gyokuro tasting experience that begins with warm water poured over the delicate leaves, and ends by eating those same leaves with a touch of ponzu. The atmosphere encourages a slower rhythm, allowing you to savor both the flavors and the moment.
Guests on the extended tour will head deeper into the hills to visit a mountaintop tea terrace. Surrounded by rows of tea bushes and sweeping views, you’ll enjoy a “Tea Picnic in the Sky,” sampling a variety of green teas guided by a local farmer who explains how climate and terrain shape the taste of each cup. If it rains, the tasting will be held indoors at a nearby matcha sweets shop.
Throughout the tour, your guide will share local stories, help with communication, and ensure a smooth and welcoming experience, blending tea, food, and culture into an unforgettable journey through the heart of Fujieda’s tea heritage.
