Experience Details

Located in Kambara, a historic post town on the old Tokaido road, Sushi Yamashichi offers an authentic Japanese dining experience that blends traditional flavors with hands-on workshops.

This Halal-certified restaurant welcomes all guests, providing a chance to explore Shizuoka’s signature ingredients and culinary heritage.

The centerpiece of the experience is the Sakura-ebi Gochisou Gozen, a three-course meal featuring Shizuoka’s famous sakuraebi, or cherry blossom shrimp. Guests enjoy a seafood rice bowl with fresh sashimi, sakuraebi, and shirasu, alongside Okiagari Fisherman’s Nabe, a savory stew recognized as “100-Year Food” by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.

You’ll also make your own Sakura-ebi Kakeage Tempura, mixing sakuraebi with gyokuro tea leaves and frying it to golden perfection.

Guests take part in more than just eating. Craft onigiri (Japanese rice balls) using Shizuoka’s award-winning rice and gyokuro tea leaves, then learn the delicate art of matcha-making with traditional tea ceremony utensils. Finish the meal with a refreshing cup of matcha prepared by your own hands.

Sushi Yamashichi is also a cultural showcase. Owned and hosted by Tomoko, a kimono craft artist and sushi chef with nearly 30 years of tea ceremony experience, the restaurant features her beautiful Nishijin-ori textiles, available for purchase.

As a keepsake, guests receive a handmade tea box intricately embroidered with Nishijin-ori textiles and a container of Shizuoka matcha powder, perfect for recreating your culinary experience at home.

Here, every dish tells a story, and you get to be part of it. From making your own tempura to mastering matcha, this is more than a meal; it’s a hands-on journey through the flavors and culture of Shizuoka.
