Kyoto cuisine is renowned for its delicate yet rich flavors, seasonal ingredients, and meticulous presentation, a nod to its court origins hundreds of years ago. On this 3-hour tour, encounter a chorus of Kyoto flavors in two popular geisha entertainment districts, Gion and Pontocho, tucked along opposite sides of the Kamogawa River, each offering a completely different interpretation of local cuisine. Experience Kyoto tradition at Gion and see an innovative approach to regional cuisine at Pontocho, led by a knowledgeable host who'll take you through the must-see spots in the area, including three distinct restaurants where you can sample Kyoto's refined culinary offerings.



Stroll past historic teahouses, captivating architecture, and hidden havens with local character. The three restaurants where you’ll dine each present a different facet of Kyoto cuisine. Indulge in obanzai cooking and traditional home dishes emphasizing Kyoto vegetables and seafood. Experience the local charm of a Kyoto izakaya and learn the etiquette and proper order of eating these small, made-to-order plates. End the tour with a traditional “shime” ending meal of udon or soba featuring dashi, a rich broth at the core of Japanese cuisine. At each restaurant, you’ll compare flavors and dishes, old and new, as your guide highlights the unique characteristics of the local food scene.



General tour flow:

- Introductions and walking tour (30 minutes)

- Dining at the first restaurant (45 minutes)

- Walk to the second restaurant (10-15 minutes)

- Dining at the second restaurant (45 minutes)

- Walk to the third restaurant & dining (15-30 minutes)
