Experience Details
Let a professional chef teach you all about making sushi in a private class in Ikebukuro. Just a 2-minute walk from the nearest station, you can enjoy a lesson at a cozy, at-home setting.
Chef Kodaira, who worked at a kappo restaurant for over 10 years, decided to share his expertise through cooking classes. He also dedicates himself to helping children with special needs and their families to support their independence.
In this class, the friendly Chef Kodaira, with the support of an equally friendly English interpreter, will share his extensive knowledge of sushi and provide expert guidance. This is a rare opportunity to learn practical skills while immersing yourself in Japanese culture.
The class begins with an introduction to the history of sushi, followed by making sushi rice in a traditional wooden tub. After that, there will be a demonstration lesson on how to shape nigiri sushi.
Participants learn how to make three types of sushi: nigiri (rice and neta), gunkan maki (rice and neta wrapped in nori seaweed), and makizushi (ingredients wrapped in nori seaweed). Only the freshest fish is used, so the ingredients vary depending on the season. Enjoy your sushi with delicious miso soup.
Chef will explain the basics of sushi etiquette, such as how to put on soy sauce and use chopsticks, so you can become a true sushi connoisseur.
After the class, join the Chef on a visit to a local supermarket, where he will introduce you to his recommended seasonings and popular Japanese ingredients, giving you insider tips for recreating authentic flavors at home.
This experience offers a rare opportunity to explore local flavors and is perfect for learning about sushi and its ingredients.
